The guest artists are Mike Bonar (who won this trip on the prize wheel at the Plein Air Convention!), Lynda Pyka, and Mitch Neto.
Listen and watch as they discuss the trip's defining moments (such as visiting the incredible Milford Sound), the challenge of creating your own "atmosphere" to account for the air being so clear, a lesson in "deconstructive painting," side benefits of going on the journey, and much more.
Bonus! In this week's Art Marketing Minute, Eric Rhoads, author of Make More Money Selling Your Art, shares motivating words about keeping up your morale as an artist, and how to tell the "story" of your artwork to buyers. Ayres pausing her painting to pose with PleinAir Magazine | We love to hear from the Plein Air Today community! The following is part of a series that spotlights an artist who loves painting outdoors. Today's feature is on Pam Ayres.
My favorite place to plein air paint is DuBois Park in Jupiter, Florida. Aside from being only three miles from my house, there are numerous subjects to paint, such as the Jupiter Lighthouse, boaters on the turquoise waters of the Jupiter Inlet and Intracoastal waterway, the Jupiter Jetty, and people swimming, snorkeling, reading, sunbathing, fishing, and picnicking on the three beaches. I can also paint on ninety-degree days in the comfort of shade and the Atlantic breeze.
My Favorite Medium: I prefer oil paint to communicate the emotions of what I see because of the ease of mixing colors and the thick, juicy texture I can layer.
My Favorite Subject: The beach. The colors of the many beach umbrellas, the people, dogs, birds, kite surfers, the beautiful blue and turquoise water, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets are what excite and inspire me.
