I found Mike Hernandez to be a very engaging instructor. I respect his work in the gouache medium. His blocking techniques to create values and build warm undertones were stressed. And, like other artists, I appreciated his counsel to fight the temptation to inject details into the painting too soon — something I'm constantly trying to be mindful of.
Mike keeps things loose throughout much of the demo — which aligns with his particular artistic style. This video series included a half-hour Q&A session where workshop participants were able to ask a wide range of questions. I have a fairly extensive art video library, and can't recall another artist doing this. I highly recommend this video for artists working with gouache.
