The contemporary artworld this year might resemble an archipelago of interests – from the 'NGO aesthetics' of ruangrupa's problematic but conversation-changing Documenta and the commercial scene's ongoing infatuation with 'OKish painting', through to the 'aesthetic innovation' of Just Stop Oil and the democratisation of image-making heralded by AI art generators.
